Responses

Submission

Responses are due in my UMBC inbox every Wednesday at 10 AM ET, with the exception of the dates listed below. You are responsible for any glitches in email delivery. If you want to make sure you get your response in on time regardless of technology issues, submit them early and request that I notify you of receipt.

You are exempt from this assignment any week you participate in a group project, take an exam or submit a major piece of your research paper. Also, there are no responses due the week of Thanksgiving. The dates are listed below:
  • W 10/19 (Project Group #2 only)
  • W 10/26
  • W 11/02 (Project Group #3 only)
  • W 11/16
  • W 11/23
  • W 12/7

Guidelines
  • Read actively.
    • Always read with a pen and pad.
    • Ask questions.
    • Challenge the author
    • This makes it a lot easier to write responses. If you're taking notes, most of what you need to write is already written!
  • Evaluate readings from the past week.
    • One article + one text (or, if there's no text, another article)
    • Share questions and challenges you developed in your notes.
    • Connect to other readings, lectures, and real-world issues.
  • Evaluate previous two lectures.
    • Share questions and challenges that may arise in your lecture notes.
    • Connect to readings and real-world issues.
  • You should be able to do this in four paragraphs, give or take.
  • Write in a word processor first and save it.
  • Email the file or the plain text to the professor.

The rubric below explains how you can earn various grades for different levels of response. Click here for a downloadable version of the response grading rubric.
